Join Maimonides Wellness Center for “Sex and the Brain: What Science Tells Us about Men’s Brains and Women’s Brains,” a presentation by CU Professor Robert Spencer with facilitated discussion following, Thursday, March 23, 7pm at the Boulder JCC.  Is there a region of the brain that relates to asking for directions? Do girl monkeys play with dolls while boy monkeys prefer toy trucks? Are men better at abstract concepts while women are more interested in people – and, if so, why? HaSifria

The First Annual HaSifria Essay Contest for Teens!

Topic:  “Zachor! (Remember!)”

HaSifria is holding the first annual essay contest for teens. The topic is: “Zachor! (Remember!)” What does “Zachor!” mean? Zachor is Hebrew for “Remember!”

Guidelines: Participants do not need to answer the questions posed above so much as to reflect upon them. Essays should be 500 words or less, typewritten, double spaced, and with numbered pages.

Eligibility: Students in Grades 8-12 who live in Boulder or Broomfield Counties

Essays will be judged on: Originality, creativity, eloquence of writing style, structure (how well thought out the essay is), and relevance to the topic

Deadline: Submissions must be received by Monday, March 27

Prize: $36 for you and $36 to donate to the participant’s favorite charity. An excerpt from the winning essay will be published in The Community Page, a publication of the Boulder Jewish Community Center, and the essay will be posted on the Boulder JCC website. Winners will be announced at the Chidush Awards Presentation on April 27 at 7 p.m. at the Boulder JCC.

It is also time for the annual Passover tzeddekah project!   Last year, Jews in Boulder came together in a beautiful community effort and provided Passover treats for Jewish elders.  We distributed Passover goody bags to every Boulder Jewish senior living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and independent retirement homes.  We want to do this again, and we need your help!  We will provide these wonderful goody bags to approximately 55 elders.  We need donations of matzoh (kosher for Passover only), gefilte fish, jelly candies or chocolate, horseradish and macaroons.  Donations can be brought to the Jewish Family Service office located in the Jewish Community Center.
