Menorah’s Talking Pictures Series
Reflections of a Jewish Filmmaker: An Evening with Mark Jonathan Harris

Join Menorah for “Reflections of a Jewish Filmmaker: An evening with Mark Jonathon Harris,” Thursday, March 1, 7 p.m. at the Boulder JCC. When accepting an Academy Award, there are always so many people to thank. Both times director Mark Jonathan Harris accepted the Oscar for best documentary, he had six million people to acknowledge. In 1997, the academy honored “The Long Way Home,” a heartbreaking depiction of the wilderness years many Jews experienced after liberation from Nazi death camps. Three years later Harris took home another Oscar for “Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport.” Harris will show clips from these and other films as he talks about his life and work, his background and his future projects, his methods and his vision. Join us during Holocaust Awareness Week for this presentation by one of the most successful Jewish documentary filmmakers working today. Cost: $8 for Boulder JCC members; $10 for non-members. RSVP to Kathryn@Boulderjcc.org, (303) 998-1021.

One of the most influential rabbis of the 20th century, Abraham Joshua Heschel may be best known for marching with Martin Luther King – the subject of Menorah’s January program, which left many who attended longing to learn more. Indeed, there’s much more to Heschel than social activism. Come learn more about this great scholar, theologian, writer and teacher from one of his students, Rabbi Victor Gross. Rabbi Victor Gross was a student of Professor Heschel in the late 60's and had a personal  relationship with him and his family and paid a partial debt to his influence by writing his Ph.D. on him.

Menorah and Jewish Film Series at Hillel
Getting Hammered:

An evening with director Jonathan Kesselman

Director of “The Hebrew Hammer”

Join Menorah and the Jewish Film Series at Hillel “Getting Hammered: An Evening with director Jonathan Kesselman,” director of “The Hebrew Hammer,” Monday, March 5, 8 p.m. at Humanities B190 at the CU Campus. Jonathan Kesselman, a CU graduate, created the most outrageous Jewish film in history prior to “Borat.” In 2003, he shocked and delighted audiences with his hilarious send-up of blaxploitation films. An instant cult classic, “The Hebrew Hammer,” which he dubbed a “Jewxploitation film,” starred Adam Goldberg as a Jewish superhero battling the evil son of Santa Claus who wants to make everyone celebrate Christmas. The Hebrew Hammer saves Hanukkah with the help of his soul brother, played by Mario Van Peebles. Join us as Kesselman returns to CU to talk about his notorious parody and some recent projects, including his upcoming sequel, “Hammer versus Hitler.” There is NO CHARGE for this event. Sponsored by the Jewish Film Series at Hillel and Menorah. For more information contact Kathryn@boulderjcc.org or andrew.oppenheimer@colorado.edu.

Boulder Weekly presents

Screening of “Obsession” at the Boulder Theater

The Boulder Weekly is presenting “Obsession,” a film produced by HonestReporting.com, on Sunday, March 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street.  “Obsession” is an unblinking and deeply disturbing portrait of Radical Islamic terrorism and the threat it poses to practically every country in the world. Using images from Arab TV, rarely seen in the West, “Obsession” reveals an “insider's view” of the hatred the Radicals are teaching, their incitement of global jihad, and their goal of world domination. With the help of experts, including first-hand accounts from a former PLO terrorist, a Nazi youth commander, and the daughter of a terrorist, the film clearly shows that the threat is real. The screening is made possible by the support of Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic, Bill Goldsmith Productions, Turley's Restaurant, Mr. Michael Stein. Dr. Paul H. Dragul, Congregation Bonai Shalom, Alllied Jewish Federation, Mr. Even Holz, Boulder Republican Women. For information, contact standbyisrael@gmail.com.
