Out In Our Faith begins...

The Center for Judaic Studies is proud to be working with the Iliff School of Theology, Hillel, the Abrahamic Initiative at St. Johns Cathedral, and the Department of Religious Studies, Jewish Mosaic, the Denver Film Society and 32 other collaborating organizations on Out In Our Faith: Sexuality, Film and Civic Engagement with Religious Communities. This month-long series of interfaith and intercultural films and community panels celebrates both individuality and community, affirms commitments to social justice and spirituality and shows positive examples of integrating religion and sexuality. A special play...
The Holocaust Awareness Institute and the Hebrew Educational Alliance is is proud to present Dr. Henry Greenspan's play Remnants, which is based on two decades of his conversations with Holocaust survivors. The play explores the human experience of living after the Holocaust. Greenspan is a psychologist and playwright at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has been writing and teaching about the Holocaust for almost three decades. He has performed Remnants as a one-man presentation at more than a hundred venues throughout the world.

Kristallnacht: Remembrance and Art - A Cultural Concert & Art Exhibition
Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 at 7 p.m.
BMH-BJ Congregation
560 S. Monaco Parkway, Denver
BMH-BJ Congregation, the Holocaust Awareness Institute, and Mizel Museum present Kristallnacht: Remembrance and Art - A Cultural Concert & Art Exhibition.
Commemorate this historical event through a concert on the spoken word, music and the visual arts. Narrative & music presented by Rabbi Raymond Zwerin and Cantor Joel Lichterman accompanied by the combined BMH-BJ Male Choir & Temple Sinai Adult Choir. Guest artists include internationally acclaimed Israeli musicians Yuval Gotlibovitch, Viola and Rita Gotlibovitch, Piano.
This special commemoration also includes an art exhibition and sale. Tickets for the concert are $18, which includes the presentation and exhibit. For more information please call 303.394.9993 ext. 4.

Faculty Around Town...
Dr. Caryn Aviv will be a panelist on the Jewish Community Panel for Out in Our Faith: Sexuality, Film and Civic Engagement with Religious Communities on October 25th. She also presented a lecture about Israeli multiculturalism and Russian immigration for the Jewish Community Relations Council on September 12th.
Rachel Jablon, our Holocaust Scholar in Residence, is presenting "From Holocaust to Hollywood: The Manipulation of Identity in Three Holocaust Films" at the Literature and Film Association's Annual Conference in early November. She was also awarded the Graduate Student Travel Award from the SSAWW and a Jacob K. Goldhaber Travel Grant from the University of Maryland Graduate School.

Dr. Jeanne Abrams, professor at Penrose Library and director of the Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and Beck Archives at the Center for Judaic Studies, has just published one of the first full accounts of Jewish women in the American West. Her new book, Jewish Women Pioneering the Frontier Trail: A History in the American West, portrays the rich history and contributions Jewish women made in this new frontier. In addition to the book, an exhibit entitled A Legacy of Caring: Jewish Women of Colorado, is on exhibit through November at DU's Chambers Center for Women.
