Help Us Continue to Bring the Highest Level of Jewish Education to Denver...
|
As we bid goodbye to Amichai Lau Lavie, our first long term visiting artist in residence at the Center, I wanted to take this opportunity to ask for your support. If you believe in the highest level of Jewish education, you should be supporting the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver.
This fall brought some of the most innovative and cutting edge performers, artists and educators to the Denver-Boulder region. Amichai's visit, along with Peter Cole's transformative presentation of medieval Jewish poetry, and Ari Kelman's fantastic work on Yiddish literature has put the University of Denver on the map as a center for innovative Jewish education and culture.
The Center receives only one third of its operating budget from the university. The rest comes from supporters like you.
This year's project, Shema: What Jewish Culture Sounds Like, has a budget of $132,000. Thanks to the vision of Rose Community Foundation, we have already met more than half of that goal. Please help us ensure that we can meet our entire budget and continue to bring the highest level of Jewish education to Denver by giving us your support.
Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav once said, "Money to support Torah is Torah itself." Those of you supporting our work are creating Torah, are helping us turn Denver-Boulder into one of the nation's leading centers of Jewish education and culture.
WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU...
David Shneer
Director, Center for Judaic Studies

DU Student, Consultant to the Holocaust Awareness Institute and Inspirational Teacher on Channel 4...
Carrie Olson, consultant to the Holocaust Awareness Institute at the Center for Judaic Studies, master teacher for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and now a Ph.D. Student at DU in the College of Education and the Center for Judaic Studies was featured on Denver's Channel 4 earlier this month. They highlighted her work with eighth grade students at Kepner Middle School where Carrie teaches the history of the Holocaust. With the help of the KEEP Foundation, her course includes a trip to Europe to see and learn about history first hand. Often the first trip internationally for these students, Carrie's class inspires students to reach higher demonstrated with a substantially higher rate of graduation among alumni.
The Center for Judaic Studies is incredibly proud to call Carrie Olson one
of our students as she pursues a Ph.D. in Holocaust education. Carrie was also the recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from the Holocaust Awareness Institute, presented at the 2005 Remembrance & Hope Dinner.
