Mystic Breezes in the Garden of Eden: Jewish Mysticism and Sacred StorytellingYitzhak Buxbaum This weekend includes a storytelling performance on Friday night and a weekend workshop that explores the Jewish mystical tradition. Participants will be introduced to a new type of religious activity - spiritual storytelling. In Judaism, storytelling is a sacred activity. Late at night, friends sit in the intimate tent of a candle's dancing light and share holy stories. Each story is a ritual of healing that weaves together wisdom and action, the finite and the infinite, the human and the divine. We will learn and practice the techniques of Jewish spiritual storytelling as they apply to all religions - what and how to tell, how to listen. We will hear, tell, study, discuss and enjoy stories, and discover how storytelling can enliven our religious sensibilities. We will study the guiding principles of Jewish mysticism and explore spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, blessings and mantras. Participants will have a chance to experience and "taste" new practices with the possibility of integrating them into their religious life. Everyone is welcome! Yitzhak Buxbaum is a maggid (a traditional Jewish inspirational speaker and storyteller), who was ordained as such by the legendary Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. He specializes in Jewish mysticism and Hasidic tales, and also teaches ecumenical subjects. He has a broad familiarity with many religions, particularly devotional Hinduism and Sufism, and teaches and tells stories at synagogues, churches, mosques and temples throughout the United States and Canada. Yitzhak is one of the most acclaimed Jewish religious authors and has published ten books on Jewish spirituality including: The Light and Fireof the Baal Shem Tov; Jewish Spiritual Practices; An Open Heart: The Mystic Path of Loving People; Storytelling and Spirituality in Judaism; Jewish Tales of Mystic Joy; and Jewish Tales of Holy Women.
