Pardes Levavot

Pardes Levavot, “Orchard of Hearts,” was formed in the spirit of creating conscious holy community. Our name expresses the spiritual blossoming of each individual heart within an inspiring and nurturing orchard.

For information on our congregation please call (303) 563-2110 and leave a message or send email to info@pardeslevavot.org. To join our congregation, please print a copy of our membership form, fill it out, and send it to our Synagogue.

Pardes Levavot gratefully acknowledges Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado for their support of our Circle of Family Education program. Thank you!

Setting Up our Sacred Space

General set-up Info

In the wintertime, the heat in the sanctuary can be controlled via the thermostat found inside, near the north doors. Please don't forget to turn it back down before you leave. In the spring and fall you can use the large exhaust fans to pull the heat out of the sanctuary and draw in fresh air. The switches for these fans are on the wall near the west emergency exit to the left of the Bima. In the summer, the air conditioner can be used to cool off the sanctuary.

All the supplies for our services can be found in boxes on the metal rack in the sacristy, the small room behind the Bima.

Fridays

  1. BIMA - Place a regular plain white table cloth on the altar. This is used to catch any dripping candle wax. Then cover that with the lace Jewish-themed tablecloth. Very, very carefully, move the cross to the sacristy. Hang the YHWH banner on the lectern.

  2. CANDLES - Set up two or three of the folding candle racks on the altar. The tea candles are in a box in the sacristy; please only use new candles. Use cookie sheets under the candle racks to catch wax drips. The two large Mikasa candlesticks should also be set out on the altar with new shabbos candles.

  3. SIDDURIM - Put a stack of Friday evening siddurim (prayer books) on the table at the back of the Sanctuary, near the entrance.

  4. WELCOME TABLE - Set up a card table by the doors to the Sanctuary. You should be able to find a small table cloth in the "welcome table" box stored in the sacristy (behind the bima) to place on it. Put kippot and the tsedakah box on this welcome table. The welcome table storage box will also have pamphlets, sign-in sheets, name tags, etc.

  5. RABBIS and MUSICIANS - This setup is often done by the musicians. Set two music stands in front of the Bima, along with two stools. Additional music stands and chairs will be needed in the musicians area at the back of the sancturary depending on the musicians for the service. Microphones and the sound system also need to be set up and adjusted.

Saturdays

  1. BIMA - Place the lace Jewish-themed tablecloth over the altar. Very, very carefully, move the cross to the sacristy. Hang the YHWH banner on the lectern.

  2. ARK - Move the ark to the side of the Bima. It takes two or three people to safely move it.

  3. SIDDURIM - Put a stack of Saturday morning siddurim (prayer books) on the table at the back of the Sanctuary, near the entrance.

  4. WELCOME TABLE - Set up a card table by the doors to the Sanctuary. You should be able to find a small table cloth in the "welcome table" box stored in the sacristy (behind the bima) to place on it. Put kippot (but not the tsedakah box) on this welcome table. The welcome table storage box will also have pamphlets, sign-in sheets, name tags, etc. Finally, place the Talitot at the front of the sanctuary.

Cleaning up afterwards.

Services are not done until everything is cleaned and put back! We ask EVERYONE to help clean up.

Generally, put everything back where you found it. The cross should be returned to its original location. Table cloth, candles, YHWH banner, bima cloth et cetera should be returned to sacristry. Prayer books returned to their storage boxes. Service outlines collected and put in box in sacristry. Chairs, music stands and microphone stands returned. Return the Ark to its spot if moved.

Leaving the Building

Make sure everyone else has left. Return the thermostat to where you found it. Turn off all lights. Make sure all interior doors are left open or closed, as noted on a sign on each door. Make sure all exterior doors are closed and locked. Leave the building either through the front door, if you have a key to lock it behind you, or through one of the self-latching doors, if you have no key (after locking the main doors from the inside). Go home. Good Shabbos!
