Jewish Parenting Tip
Creating a Meaningful Passover
Most people know that we celebrate our Exodus from
Egypt and the birth of
the Jewish nation on Passover. A deeper piece of our
celebration is found in
the Hebrew word for Egypt, which is mitzrayim.
Mitzrayim literally means a
narrow place. G-d delivered us from a narrow place
physically, spiritually
and emotionally. As you begin your Seder, I encourage
you to hold your
children of all ages on your laps, draw them close and
tell them this night
is for them and for you- to retell a story about our
freedom and
perseverance but even more to support each other to
move out of narrow
places. How can we be less enslaved in our lives in
this moment? Can we
answer our phone less and be present with each
other more? Can we share our
toys more willingly? Can we share ourselves with our
neighbors more easily? Submitted by Deb
Dusansky Kornfeld

Meet a Stepping Stones Family
Wayne and Kimberly Turnbow, with their two
daughters Julia and Eden, joined Stepping Stones in
the Fall of 2004. Kimberly shares, "we came to
Stepping Stones for the educational aspect of the
program. While my husband and I had decided before
we were married to raise our children as Jews, we
never discussed the details of that decision. As our
children got a little older, my desire to live a more
actively Jewish life grew. Stepping Stones gave our
family a place to learn together, with the help of some
of the best educators in the community, and in the
company of families facing some of the same
issues."
The Turnbow family members are now active
members of the Hebrew Education Alliance. "We were
exposed to a wide spectrum of synagogues where we
might feel comfortable. When we started Stepping
Stones, we had
already been involved at the Hebrew Educational
Alliance through their
preschool and several adult classes that I had taken.
When we joined HEA, I
felt like we had a solid basis for making our decision."
