"I didn't know Jews like you existed... let alone had a magazine."
Zeek: A Jewish Journal of Thought and Culture an independent, intelligent, and innovative Jewish journal of thought and culture. Published in 96-page bound volumes twice a year, and online every month at www.zeek.net, Zeek is a unique venue for Jewish culture. Focused on adults (particularly in their 20s and 30s) who find themselves dissatisfied with conventional categories, divisions, movements, and ideologies, Zeek is at once spiritual and secular, engaged and independent. Zeek's print version has received critical acclaim, and its online edition attracts an average of 50,000 visitors per month. Writers and artists who have appeared in Zeek include Douglas Rushkoff, Elinor Carucci, Rabbi Jill Hammer, Allyson Grey, Kitra Cahana, Jennifer Blowdryer, Saul Robbins, Aaron Hamburger, Eliezer Sobel, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Matthue Roth, Lynne Marie, Pamela Yates, Paul Mindell, Bex Schwartz, and Rabbi Jacob Staub. We have published eighty-year-old rabbis, thirty-year-old former heroin addicts, transgendered novelists and "brand name" cultural critics; we have essays on hipster antisemitism and meditation and sensuality; and we are fiercely independent. Including religious and "non-religious" voices from America, Europe, and Israel, Zeek is fast becoming the leading intelligent Jewish review of religion and culture. Zeek's board of advisors includes Jennifer Bleyer (Heeb), Jill Hammer (Tel Shemesh), Steve Jacobson (Dorot), Amichai Lau-Lavie (Storahtelling), Rabbi Michael Paley (UJA-Federation), and Nigel Savage (Hazon). Its editorial board is comprised of Jay Michaelson (Chief Editor), Dan Friedman (Associate Editor), Leah Koenig (Assistant Editor), Michael Shurkin (Assistant Editor), Joshua Furst (Fiction Editor), and Stephen Hazan-Arnoff (Contributing Editor). Zeek invites submissions from artists and writers whose work touches upon the Jewish experience in a new and interesting way. We have a broad definition of what constitutes Jewish culture, and reflect that orientation in our pages. We are unafraid of spirituality, but we also have a sophisticated cultural sensibility and critical eye. Email submissions are strongly preferred. General poetry and prose to zeek@zeek.net; fiction to fiction@zeek.net; and artwork to art@zeek.net. Contributors are strongly advised to read the magazine first, at www.zeek.net. |
