We still need donations!  Please bring canned cranberries, canned yams, dry stuffing mix, canned vegetables, dry potatoes and turkey gravy mix to the shul.  Cash donations are also greatly appreciated. Getting Involved

Building and Grounds Areas Needing Attention

If you have any expertise in any of these areas and would like to perform any of the repairs or would like to volunteer to assist, please contact Wendall Borchert at wendallborchert@comcast.net or 303-530-0188.
  • Front Doors: The sweep is missing from one of the doors and the lower edge is starting to delaminate.  Both doors need to be refinished.  We might want to consider installing brass kick plates to the bottom of each.
  • Air Conditioning: The A/C units for the sanctuary both need attention. One of the units is leaking and needs to be repaired and recharged. The compressor is bad in the other unit and the entire unit needs to be replaced.
  • Exhaust Fans For The Sanctuary: The concrete pads for the exhaust fans have settled. The fans have been supported on temporary blocks but the pads need to be repaired or replaced and new flexible couplings installed on the ductwork.
  • Fascia At South Side Of Gym: Woodpeckers have destroyed some of the fascia on the south side of the gym. Need to repair, replace or cover the fascia and repaint it.
  • Fire Exit From Lower Level: One of the steps on the lower level emergency fire exit has rotted.  Needs to be replaced. This is one of the railroad ties in large window well at the south side of the shul.
  • Hole in Soffet: Woodpeckers have punched a hole in the soffet on the west side of the sanctuary.
  • Roof Leak Over The Nursery: There is a roof leak when we have periods of heavy rain. This is leaking through the ceiling into the nursery.

Host an Oneg

We have plenty of openings for people to host an Oneg Shabbat or a Kiddush. Interested? Write info@pardeslevavot.org.

From the Shepherd of the Hills Bulletin

Upcoming event – mark your calendars: we will have a FALL CLEAN UP DAY ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18 9:00 a.m. TO NOON. We are fortunate to have the assistance of members of Boy Scout Troop 377.

Boulder Day for Darfur

We are asking all participants to make at least two calls:  one to President Bush and the other to Secretary of State Rice.  If time allows (and this really does just take a couple of minutes) we urge you to call your senators and representative as well. You can call their Colorado office, Washington office or both.

Sample Script for the President and Secretary Rice:
Hello, this is (your name) calling from Boulder, Colorado. I'm calling to urge (President Bush/Secretary Rice)  to use all diplomatic channels to pressure the Sudanese government to immediately consent to a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Darfur.  If U.N. peacekeepers are not sent to Darfur to replace the African Union peacekeepers who are chronically under-funded and have a weak mandate, thousands more innocent people will suffer. Please don't let the perpetrators of genocide veto the international community's responsibility to protect!
Sample Script for Wayne Allard, Ken Salazar and Mark Udall:
Hello, this is (your name) calling from Boulder, Colorado. I'm calling to ask (Senator Allard/Senator Salazar/Congressman Udall), to urge the President and Secretary Rice to use all diplomatic channels to pressure the Sudanese government to immediately consent to a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Darfur.  If U.N. peacekeepers are not sent to Darfur to replace the African Union peacekeepers who are chronically under funded and have a weak mandate, thousands more innocent people will suffer. Please don't let the perpetrators of genocide veto the international community's responsibility to protect!

SPECIAL MEMBER NEEDS/OFFERINGS

Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage Plan

Dear Friends,

Wednesday November 15th marks the beginning of Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage Plan open enrollment.  The Medicare Part D open enrollment period is only six weeks long, ending December 31st.

If you, your friends, or relatives living in Colorado desire to enroll or change plans, then the time to act is now, before the last minute. Last year the vast majority of headaches happened when plan members tried to fill prescriptions at the pharmacy before the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid could process their paperwork.  Again, if you are thinking of enrolling in Part D please don’t wait until the end of December to act.

Medicare products are one of the lines of insurance that I specialize in.  I would be happy to help you discover which plan makes the most sense for you.  If you would like my help please send me an e-mail at joelrosenblum@comcast.net or give me a call at 720-298-3516.

Sincerely,
Joel Rosenblum

End of Life Decisions – Making Choices Now

The Boulder Chevra Kadisha is proud to sponsor a community-wide workshop: End of Life Decisions – Making Choices Now.

Confused about the difference between a living will and a power of attorney for health care?  Are you worried that you don’t know enough medicine to specify what care you do and don’t want if you face a catastrophic health issue?  Have you wanted to talk to your family about your wishes, but don’t know how to go about it?  Then this workshop is for you!

A panel including:
  • Rabbi Nadya Gross,
  • K. Gabriel Heiser, elder law attorney
  • David Chernikoff, psychotherapist and meditation teacher
  • Dr. Michael Pearlman, doctor of internal medicine
and other guest speakers will present information on these critical issues, followed by a question and answer period.  Then, with the aid of a facilitator, we will work in small groups to begin writing in a document entitled “Five Wishes” which clarifies your medical wishes for your family, friends and health care providers.  “Five Wishes” also helps you anticipate your end-of-life personal, spiritual and emotional needs.

Sunday, November 19, 2006
1:00 - 5:00 PM
Har HaShem Synagogue
$10.00 pre-registration, $12.00 at the door (Includes a copy of the Five Wishes)
For questions, contact Carol Navsky at 303-499-4432

JFS Blood Drive

Joanna and Caroline Welch required many units of blood during their birth due to unexpected complications. As appreciative blood recipients, they are now blood donors and they coordinate blood drives on their college campuses. The twins know first hand the importance of our community blood supply so they encourage people to give blood for the first time.

"The one hour it takes to donate blood, gave us 18 years and counting."
-Joanna and Caroline Welch, blood recipients and donors

Jewish Family Service & Wells Fargo Bank is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, December 28 at 10:00-10:40 AM & 12:00-3:30 PM in the Wells Fargo Conference Room (1001 S. Monaco Pkwy). Bonfils Blood Center needs 4,350 volunteer donors each week to meet Colorado's needs so please contact Alaina Green at agreen@jewishfamilyservice.org or (303) 597-5199 x 367 today to schedule an appointment to donate blood.  It is one of the easiest ways to volunteer with each donation taking less than an hour. When you give blood it is always needed and always appreciated.

Click here  for general information about blood donor eligibility or click here to contact Bonfils' Donor Relations Department with questions about blood donation.
