PRAYERS
AT PARDES LEVAVOT
Thank
You!
Thank you to the
Stewart family - Liz, Larry and Lily - for hosting our oneg on Friday
night. The oneg was held in honor of Joy Myers Silverman, Liz's mother,
on her fifth yahrzeit. A wonderful tribute to Joy, and a feast for
everyone present.
Pardes Levavot is honored to announce the creation of the Leslie Ann
Weidner Memorial Scholarship Fund. Leslie and her husband John have
been members of Pardes Levavot since shortly after our founding, and
have attended as Leslie's health allowed. She died on Dec 30th, after a
courageous battle with cancer, and was an inspiration in her life to
those who were privileged to know her. The Leslie Ann Weidner Memorial
Scholarship Fund will make scholarships available to our teens who wish
to attend Jewish leadership programs, summer camps and Israel trips.
Leslie's own Jewish identity was rooted in her participation in Jewish
summer camps and her trip to Israel when she was 17 years old. Please
write to info@pardeslevavot.org
if you would like to contribute.
A Mazal Tov to Amitai Gross on his election as Rocky Mountain Region
'Gadol' (President) of AZA (BBYO). Amitai has benefited greatly from
his participation in the kinds of summer and youth programs that the
new scholarship fund is designed to support. We encourage all our post
B'nai Mitzvah teens to talk with Amitai about the programs available to
them in our area.

Tikkun
Olam: Repairing the World
Help Farm Workers in
California
ALEPH's Sacred Foods Project
holds out fair and just treatment of farm workers as one of its
fundamental principles. Please consider supporting the farm workers in
California who will be suffering greatly as a result of this year's
freeze. The news is full of stories about the freeze and how
California's multimillion dollar citrus crop is being hit hard. The
harsh January freeze that ravaged California citrus also damaged
strawberries, avocados and possibly other crops. It could also ravage
the lives of an estimated 20,000 farm workers and their families in
citrus alone. While growers are assessing the situation, the United
Farm Workers is already hearing from citrus workers who are out of
work. Workers have told us they think it will be almost a total loss.
News reports talk about the negative effects of this disaster on
growers. However, growers can apply for relief under emergency
declarations and many have insurance to cover some of their losses.
There is little or no aid for the farm workers who pick the crops.
Please help the UFW fight for these farm workers. Contact California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein. Thank
the governor for calling a state of emergency and ask Sen. Feinstein to
work to get the federal government to declare a national emergency, as
she did after the 1998-1999 freeze. Ask them to make sure emergency
assistance provides unemployment insurance; rent or mortgage
assistance; utilities assistance; and organized food distribution to
farm workers and their stricken families. When the assistance comes in,
the UFW will be there to get it to all those who need it - just as we
did back after the last freeze. Every e-mail sent makes a difference.
Please help us spread the word about this campaign. Visit the UFW's
"Freeze page" to see the latest news clips and press releases.

in your spiritual practice with two leading bodywork practitioners, Liz

Sacred Garment: Women and
Tefilin
Tefilin are called in our
holy sources, a sign, “ot.” Even though the Torah exempted women from
wearing them, there is no prohibition against it. The Talmud says that
if women wish to put on tefilin, we should not stand in their way.
Moreover, the women are rewarded for it. What are Tefilin? May women
wear Tefilin? What is prayer? Can Tefilin help us to pray? How can
Tefilin contribute to our spiritual practice? Come! Learn and
experience how Tefilin can help you to connect heart, mind and soul to
divine energy.
When: February 18, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
Where: Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Road, Boulder, CO 80303
Fee: $10
The class is taught by
Ori Har, spiritual director and rabbinic student. If you are interested in
participating, please RSVP to Sara Hollander. E-mail: sandiji2@yahoo.com Phone:

If you have a set of Tefilin at home please bring it to class.
