PRAYERS
AT PARDES LEVAVOT
Thank
You!
Congratulations to
Eddie Dombrower who celebrated the last day of his 40s with us on
Shabbat! And thank you to Eddie, Laura, Micah and Selah who provided
the oneg in honor of Eddie's birthday.
Last Saturday, January 27th, after Ari Saponar's Bar-Mitzvah I walked
away with two different boots. Both are the color beige but one is
shorter and a bigger size. Whoever experienced the same mismatch please
contact Ori Har @ 303.440.1024. Thank you, Ori.

Tikkun
Olam: Repairing the World
Help Farm Workers in
California
ALEPH's Sacred Foods Project
holds out fair and just treatment of farm workers as one of its
fundamental principles. Please consider supporting the farm workers in
California who will be suffering greatly as a result of this year's
freeze. The news is full of stories about the freeze and how
California's multimillion dollar citrus crop is being hit hard. The
harsh January freeze that ravaged California citrus also damaged
strawberries, avocados and possibly other crops. It could also ravage
the lives of an estimated 20,000 farm workers and their families in
citrus alone. While growers are assessing the situation, the United
Farm Workers is already hearing from citrus workers who are out of
work. Workers have told us they think it will be almost a total loss.
News reports talk about the negative effects of this disaster on
growers. However, growers can apply for relief under emergency
declarations and many have insurance to cover some of their losses.
There is little or no aid for the farm workers who pick the crops.
Please help the UFW fight for these farm workers. Contact California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein. Thank
the governor for calling a state of emergency and ask Sen. Feinstein to
work to get the federal government to declare a national emergency, as
she did after the 1998-1999 freeze. Ask them to make sure emergency
assistance provides unemployment insurance; rent or mortgage
assistance; utilities assistance; and organized food distribution to
farm workers and their stricken families. When the assistance comes in,
the UFW will be there to get it to all those who need it - just as we
did back after the last freeze. Every e-mail sent makes a difference.
Please help us spread the word about this campaign. Visit the UFW's
"Freeze page" to see the latest news clips and press releases.

Sacred Garment: Women and
Tefilin
Tefilin are called in our
holy sources, a sign, “ot.” Even though the Torah exempted women from
wearing them, there is no prohibition against it. The Talmud says that
if women wish to put on tefilin, we should not stand in their way.
Moreover, the women are rewarded for it. What are Tefilin? May women
wear Tefilin? What is prayer? Can Tefilin help us to pray? How can
Tefilin contribute to our spiritual practice? Come! Learn and
experience how Tefilin can help you to connect heart, mind and soul to
divine energy.
When: February 18, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
Where: Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Road, Boulder, CO 80303
Fee: $10
The class is taught by
Ori Har, spiritual director and rabbinic student. If you are interested in
participating, please RSVP to Sara Hollander. E-mail: sandiji2@yahoo.com Phone:

If you have a set of Tefilin at home please bring it to class.

Temple of Song: the
Ecstasy of Hebrew Chanting
Temple of Song: the Ecstasy
of Hebrew Chanting with Eyal Rivlin and Danya Uriel, a Naropa
Continuing Education Class. Chanting works! Hebrew chanting invokes the
collective consciousness of four millennia of ancient mystical
teachings. In this experiential workshop, chants and nigguns will be
explored along with attunements (kavvanot) and contemplations into the
deeper meanings of the ancient Hebrew prayers and mantras. These
powerful chants can be used for meditation, healing, prayer, and as
vehicles to connect with the spiraling rhythm of the Jewish year. No
previous musical background or knowledge of Hebrew is necessary. This
class will be offered in a safe and open-hearted environment, with live
accompaniment. Thursdays, February 22–April 12, 7–9 p.m. Non-credit:
$245, or $208.25 by February 3. For location and registration
information please contact: Naropa University’s Extended Studies

Seeds of Wonder
Reb Nadya and Reb Victor
recommend to you: SEEDS of WONDER, Hanna Tiferet's seventh
recording, has come to life during this first week of Shevat. It may be
late for Hanukkah, but it's just in time for Tu B'Shevat! SEEDS of
WONDER contains 15 new song-prayers to nourish your heart and soul.
Once again, Hanna has created beautiful music that will carry you
through hard times, help you prepare for Shabbat, inspire your
children, and renew your connection to ancient texts. She is joined by
a host of talented musicians including Shulamit Wise Fairman, Cantor
Jeff Klepper, and a choir of angels. SEEDS of WONDER is available both
digitally and in a full CD format from www.cdfreedom.com/artists/hannatiferet/
The Cave of Reconciliation
In the Southern Judea region,
3,050 feet above sea level, lies a city; some know it as Hebron, others
Al-Khalil. In this city sits a cave with three names: the Tomb of the
Patriarchs, Ma'arat H'Machpelah, and al-Haram al-Ibrahimi. The cave is
said to house the remains of a man and his family. The name can be
pronounced Abraham, Avraham, or Ibrahim, but the man is the same.

Participate in the 2007
Jewish Community Study
Help Us Map Out Our Future.
No matter how you are Jewish, the Community Study is about you! Being
Jewish is personal. It means something different to each of us. We want
to know your perspective. A major study of all seven counties in the
Denver/Boulder Jewish community will soon be conducted. A survey of
this depth has not been performed in ten years.
The objective of the study is to keep Jewish life meaningful in a
changing world. Your participation is important and greatly
appreciated. Your answers will help us assess the service needs of our
growing community in order to create a strong, vibrant environment that
will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Beginning in late February, professional interviewers will be calling
thousands of randomly selected Jewish and non-Jewish homes in the
seven-county Denver/Boulder Metro Area. If you receive the call, please
answer the phone. This study is being co-chaired by Nancy Gart and Rob
Klugman on behalf of the agencies, synagogues and schools in the Jewish
community. INFORMATION: www.jewishcolorado.org/2007study.
Telephone numbers will be selected anonymously and your answers will be
anonymous. Interviewers will not know or ask for your name, address or
any other personal information. There will be no solicitation of funds.
Survey results will be released in summer and fall 2007. The study is
being conducted by Ukeles Associates, Inc., managed by Allied Jewish
Federation of Colorado, and is made possible through a generous grant
from Rose Community Foundation.
