AT PARDES LEVAVOT

SPECIAL NOTE:

Dear Hearts:

This year, the ALEPH Kallah returns to our region - it will be held July 2-8 in Albuquerque, NM. This is the international gathering which takes place every other year in a different part of the U.S. It attracts over 800 renewelers, including 100+ children. There's something for everyone. Incredible class offerings (including one being taught by Reb Victor & Reb Nadya), deep davenen, fun evening programs, and a most amazing Kids Kallah!

There are brochures at shul, or you can see it on the web at www.aleph.org/kallah.html. You can also
view the ALEPH Kallah FAQ. Special discounts are offered for first-timers and for a Minyan (that's 10 or more people registering together from one congregation). Lets bring our Pardes spirit to Kallah, and then bring back the Kallah inspiration to our community! Talk to our rabbis about their Kallah experience. Its what brought them into Jewish renewal in the first place!

Making Parenting A Spiritual Practice

A very special class at Elat Chayyim, August 20-26 - Family Week, taught by Rabbis Victor and Nadya Gross.

Children come into this world bearing the wisdom gained in lifetimes lived before and the memory of God breathing life into them once again. Their greatest gift to us is to open our eyes to the unlimited potential and purity of the universe. Our greatest gift to them is to overcome our controlling need to shape them in our image.

The spiritual practice of parenting seeks to create a safe, loving and supportive environment where these young beings can grow in conscious partnership with their Divine intention. When we learn to parent in this way, our homes are defined by love, authenticity and meaning.

Come learn this practice, sourced in our rabbinic and mystical tradition, and find new joy and purpose in your relationships with your children.

Boulder Jewish Festival

The Boulder Jewish Festival celebrates its Bnei Mitzvot on Sunday, June 10 from 11-5 this year.  Don't miss it.  When else will you find Jewish food, Jewish music and Jewish art all together on the Pearl Street Mall? Stop by the assortment of community booths, food vendors, and Judaica artists while you relax with a stage packed with  engaging musicians.  Blue Fringe, a hot new rock group, is featured on the Coors Main Stage.  Kids are not forgotten with entertainment and crafts planned throughout the day.  New this year is Bonai Shalom kugels, a delicious addition to our food fare you'll want to try.  Silent auction baskets in the main tent support the Cathy Adler Scholarship fund for Jewish educators.  For a complete listing of entertainment, times and food vendors go to  www.boulderjewishfestival.org.

And don't forget - Pardes Levavot will have our booth again this year, and we'll need volunteers to help get our message out to the Jewish community! Write to info@pardeslevavot.org if you'd like to get involved.

Stilling the Mind, Opening the Heart: Where Science Meets Spirituality

With Adam Engle. Tuesday, June 19. 7 p.m. At the City Club 885 Arapahoe Ave. (This City Club is in the Historic Highland Building on the NW corner of 9th and  Arapahoe. Additional parking is available at the Boulder Public Library.) $10 for talk and wine and cheese reception

How do we create and maintain a healthy mind? Can happiness be learned? Does meditation cause changes in the brain? How are thought and feeling connected? Is the ability to focus something that can be improved through practice like playing an instrument? Join us as Adam Engle talks about the research being done by the Mind and Life Institute of Boulder, which is pioneering a new field known as contemplative neuroscience, inspired by a dialogue Engle organized between neuroscientists and the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala, India, in 2000. The Dalai Lama asked the scientists to take the practices developed by Buddhists and other contemplative traditions and test them in labs, and, if they were determined to be beneficial, to see if there were ways to teach them in secular environments. Adam Engle is chairman and cofounder of the The Mind and Life Institute, which brought the Dalai Lama to Denver for last year’s talk at the Pepsi Center, "The Science of a Compassionate Life."
