Getting Involved

From the Shepherd of the Hills Bulletin

The Community Infant Program is in need of a Bassinette! And as always, maternity clothes and diapers are greatly appreciated!

Blankets may not be foremost in our minds during these hot days of summer, but for men and women who are sleeping outside this summer, blankets are a very important part of getting through each night outdoors. The Shelter hands out blankets all summer long, and currently we are at a point where we have very few left to give out.  Donations may be dropped off at the Shelter (4869 North Broadway) any day of the week and anytime except from noon to 4pm.  Other donations needed are: Sunscreen, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Antibiotic Ointment, Wash Cloths, plus, Blankets!

Love and Logic

Love and Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children which allows adults to be happier, empowered, and more skilled in the interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices. Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences. Tuesdays at Aish Kodesh, starting August 28th and ending September 25th. Spaces are limited - please RSVP to Stephanie Bryan at 303-397-0646or email her at stephanie@REALparenting.net.

A special request from the Boulder Jewish community rabbis

Dear Jewish Community Member, This letter regards Meira (Lucia) Chmiel, a person most of us know, whether as friend or teacher, as student or colleague. She has participated in four of our synagogues in Boulder that span denominations: Har HaShem, Aish Kodesh, Pardes Levavot, and Bonai Shalom. What many of us do not know is that Meira has also been a rabbinic student these last five years through the ALEPH Renewal rabbinic ordination program. The time has come in Meira's rabbinic training to study abroad for a full-time year in Israel. Meira needs an additional scholarship in order to attend. We, the local rabbis of Boulder, are creating a fund to help her in this endeavor. Please see our web site for the full letter and more information on the wonderful contributions Meira has made to the Boulder Jewish community.

4-Quarters/4-Corners

Dear Hearts and Friends of Hearts (who are also Hearts):
Thank you for your interest in my newly designed 4-Quarters/4-Corners Talitot! In brief, the idea came to me in the fall of 2005, while living in Jerusalem, Israel. When I brought one back to the Ohalah (that’s the annual rabbinic conference for Jewish Renewal, which takes place in Boulder, Colorado every January) for my friend Jalda Nehora Rebling to wear at her ordination this past January, everyone said "Donna, you MUST make these available here in the States." Thus, I found Ibrahim the tailor and well, the rest is herstory/history/ourstory/you’re part of the story.
Blessings, Donna Friedman, Rabbinical Student

Shopping for Pardes Levavot

Are you looking for a new book, movie or music? Or perhaps some electronic gizmo? Or maybe you just want to virtual-window-shop and see what strikes your fancy. If any of these apply, please consider going to GiveLine for your purchase. Giveline is like many other online retailers, but with a difference. They give back part of the purchase price to charitable organizations, such as Pardes Levavot. And one thing I especially like - they tell you exactly how much from your purchase will be donated. None of the "a portion of all proceeds..." nonsense. I've also found that their prices are in line with other online retailers - they are taking less profit rather than marking up prices. Please go check them out, bookmark the site, and consider using them for your next online purchase. Here's how they describe themselves:
Giveline.com is a revolutionary online store created for the community-minded shopper. Every transaction in our store generates a financial contribution to your favorite charity, school, religious organization, or any other cause you support. And with our unique supplier relationships and efficient new technology, this contribution is significant and truly makes a difference. Giveline contributes between 7 and 33 percent of product sales to the selected organization, with a store-wide average of nearly 16 percent per transaction. The amount to be donated to your cause varies by product; however, our "open book" policy includes displaying the exact amount on every product page as well as throughout the checkout process.
What an easy way to donate to Pardes Levavot!

Free Stairmaster Exercise Machine

A member of Shepherd of the Hills has donated a Stairmaster 4000 PT exercise machine - however, there is no place to put it! If you would like to have it, it is free for the taking. All you have to do is arrange transportation, such as any pickup truck. A search on the web will show that even used Stairmasters are being sold for more than $1,000. And this is free - what a bargain! This is offered in as-is condition with no guarantees, but we have been told it is in fine working order. Do a mitzvah and get this out of the Welcome Room before the High Holy Days!

A little girl became restless as the Rosh's High Holy Day appeal dragged on and on. Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered,

"Mommy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?"
