Thanks to everyone, and
that is a LOT of people, who have helped to create such a wonderful
High Holy Days celebration for Pardes Levavot. And a special thank you
to Reb Nadya and Reb Victor for leading us through Rosh HaShanah and
all year; thanks to Reb Donna and Reb Ori for their love and light.

This Week
Chant and Meditation
Wednesday, September
19, 7-9pm
We will chant in each of the Four Worlds chuppot, opening the channels
of T'shuvah in preparation for Yom Kippur.
High Holy Days
If you are
not a member and would like to attend our High Holy Day services and
you have not yet sent in your reservation form,
please complete the non-member
reservation form
and bring it with you to services. We can also register you on-site,
but having the form already filled out will help us to help you enter
our sacred space. If you pre-registered, thank you! Tickets will not be
mailed, everything will be waiting for you at our welcome table.
Registration and welcome begin 30 minutes before start time; sanctuary
doors open 15 minutes before start time.

Sukkah Raising
Sunday, September 23,
2:30-4:30pm
Join us to build and beautify our Sukkah. Bring fruits, vegetables and
gourds to hang in the Sukkah. Art supplies and other decorative items
will be provided. Fun for all ages!

Dear Jewish Community
Member,
This letter regards Meira (Lucia) Chmiel, a person most of us know,
whether as friend or teacher, as student or colleague. She has
participated in four of our synagogues in Boulder that span
denominations: Har HaShem, Aish Kodesh, Pardes Levavot, and Bonai
Shalom. What many of us do not know is that Meira has also been a
rabbinic student these last five years through the ALEPH Renewal
rabbinic ordination program. The time has come in Meira's rabbinic
training to study abroad for a full-time year in Israel. Meira needs an
additional scholarship in order to attend. We, the local rabbis of
Boulder, are creating a fund to help her in this endeavor. Please

Thank you for your interest in my newly designed 4-Quarters/4-Corners
Talitot! In brief, the idea came to me in the fall of 2005, while
living in Jerusalem, Israel. When I brought one back to the Ohalah
(that’s the annual rabbinic conference for Jewish Renewal, which takes
place in Boulder, Colorado every January) for my friend Jalda Nehora
Rebling to wear at her ordination this past January, everyone said
"Donna, you MUST make these available here in the States." Thus, I
found Ibrahim the tailor and well, the rest is
herstory/history/ourstory/you’re part of the story.

Chevra Kadisha
The Boulder Chevra
Kadisha is looking for a few amazing people to help us out with an
incredible mitzvah. The Chevra Kadisha, or Holy Society, is a group of
Jewish volunteers who help purify a body for burial by washing and
preparing the body while reciting psalms and prayers. This is called "tahara".
Next, we sit "shmira" – or watch over the body until burial,
while reciting psalms, meditating, or praying. This allows for the
soul of the person to leave his or her body in a gentle way by still
having a connection to someone here. Participating in the tahara or
sitting shmira is considered one of the highest mitzvot a person can
do, as the deceased cannot express their thanks.
Shmira is generally done in 2-hour shifts, but the late night hours
have been particularly hard to fill. We are looking for a few "night
owls" who would be willing to sit shmira from midnight to 6 AM and be
paid by the family of the deceased. If you feel that you possess the
kavanah for this, or are interested in the Chevra Kadisha in general,

A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a
bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book
and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking
her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, "Zaydeh, did God
make you?"
"Yes, sweetheart," he answered, "God made me a long time ago."
"Oh," she paused, "Zaydeh, did God make me too?"
"Yes, indeed, honey," he said, "God made you just a little while ago!"
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed, "God's getting
better at it, isn't she?"
